At the Itasca County Family YMCA, we believe active living and strong connections matter at every age. Our older adult programs are designed to support health, independence, and community in a welcoming environment where everyone belongs.
The Active Living Center (ALC) is a vibrant community gathering space for recreation, social connection, and lifelong learning. Open to the public and FREE, the ALC is made possible through a partnership between the YMCA, ElderCircle, and the City of Grand Rapids.
Programming is geared toward active older adults and includes familiar favorites like bingo and cribbage, along with fun, newer options such as Wii bowling. Whether you’re looking to stay active, try something new, or simply enjoy good company, the ALC offers a place to connect and thrive.
Your generosity helps keep the ALC welcoming and accessible to all. Donations support coffee, snacks, and engaging programming that foster a lively and connected community.
ForeverWell is the YMCA’s signature program designed specifically for active older adults. These classes focus on maintaining strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health—supporting independence and confidence for everyday living.
ForeverWell offerings include:
Group exercise classes designed for older adults
Low-impact and chair-supported options
Water-based classes for joint-friendly movement
Opportunities to exercise at your own pace
Current class schedules are available at the YMCA Membership Desk or Online
Not sure where to begin? Our Wellness Center staff offer a FREE Commit to Fit session to members to help you find the right classes and equipment. Personal training options are also available for individualized support.
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports among active older adults—and for good reason! It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and can be as relaxed or competitive as you like.
Join us in the gymnasium Monday through Saturday mornings to learn more and play with friends.
